Redeemer’s internship programme in Manchester helps people discover and grow into their identity as missionaries for Jesus.
What is it?
Over two months during the summer in Manchester you will serve and be served in three main areas:
Head
Grow in your knowledge in how you uniquely fit into God’s global mission, regardless of where you live
Specific discipleship sessions on gifts and calling (some of these sessions begin before you arrive in Manchester)
Experience how other cultures worship Jesus and live the Christian life
Heart
As you join in with Redeemer, you will be part of a healthy, worshipping community with brothers and sisters from different countries.
Join in as a healthy member of a Missional Community as you are part of a gospel formed family on mission.
You will depend on Jesus differently as you are out of a comfortable home context.
Meet with leaders from various ministries and churches, as well as experience life and Christian community in a new place
Hands
As much as possible you will serve where you are gifted
You’ll also serve where you don’t feel gifted (and this is good for you, too!)
Interns will grow in serving the church through evangelism, prayer, hospitality, and behind the scenes service.
We should also mention: it’s really fun! The adventure of living in a new place and discovering more about God, yourself, and our world has its own kind of excitement.
Who’s it for?
Our internship programme is designed for individuals who are passionate about deepening their understanding of ministry and gaining practical experience in the context of a church plant. Usually people in university ages apply, but whether you are a university student, recent graduate, or are just curious to put your unique gifts into action, you are open to apply. Our programme provides a challenging and supportive testing ground.
We welcome those who have a heart for serving others, an ability to be coached by experienced mentors, and a firm commitment to faith in Jesus and the Bible.
What’s the cost?
For everything for the two months (meals, housing, transportation, etc.) we’ve estimated it would cost around $3500, plus travel to and from Manchester. We know that can be a daunting amount of money, and Redeemer can help coach you to raise the funds you need. In our experience funding has never stopped anyone from serving.
Some example scenarios
If you have creative gifts, you could work with Redeemer and other local churches in growing and developing arts ministries for discipleship within worship gatherings. Or it might be that those gifts would be suited best outside of worship gatherings, in local bars and pubs.
If you have teaching gifts, you could lead a seminar on a topic for the church or church leaders. You could lead a 1-1 Bible study.
If you are gifted in areas of hospitality, we’d organise more times for you to create spaces of welcome and belonging to those who need it.
If you are gifted in evangelism, you will have more time to spend with people who aren’t believers in order to get to know them and learn how to share the gospel with them.
If you have administrative gifts, there are serving teams and ministries that could use your help.
In all these areas you’ll have clear guidelines on your role as well as feedback from others to encourage future growth. You won’t merely be serving in areas where you believe to be gifted, but we will lean your own internship into your areas of gifts as much as possible.
